plants growing in growing boxes with SNAP hydroponics

How to Make a Growbox for SNAP Hydroponics

The SNAP Hydroponics system uses growboxes. The growbox holds the nutrient solution and the seedling plugs in place. The growbox provide enough ventilation for the aeration of the roots. It insulates the root system and keep heat at a minimum. The growbox prevents light from reaching the nutrient solution to prevent the growth of algae. It also prevents mosquitoes from laying their eggs in the nutrient solution.

Growboxes are typically made from reused 24⨉16⨉6-inch styrofoam (expanded polystyrene, EPS) boxes used in imported grapes. These styrofoam boxes are light and durable and are very easy to work with.

Dimensions and Identification

Note: There are APTCO LLC. styrobox bottom halves that are marked 5N but fits like a 5S and only accepts 5S tops.
